Hola familia,
This morning I woke up wondering, what the heck happened to the “NEW AGE MOVEMENT”? Just a few years back it seemed that one could not go without hearing at least some reference, advertisement or symbolism everywhere you went!
The “New Age” Movement ushered in a time of “love and light” where spiritual expression, exploration and transformation would take on more of an individual approach… While it was more nuanced than that, it usually revolved around practices that included crystals, meditations, tarot readings, astrology, yoga, plant medicines, different forms of body work etc…
You may be saying to yourself, well, none of those practices are in fact new, and you are right!! The reality is that much of it is actually ancient wisdom… Yet the movement exposed so many people around the world to these practices and different forms of thought and healing.
The “new age” movement was birthed in the 60’s/70’s, it wasn’t until about a decade ago when it seemed to have sparked a mass commercialization of all things spirituality! Of course, amplified even further during “Covid” with the rise of Tiktok!
Yet, these days, it feels like there is a stark contrast to the days when a “new age” something or someone was always being promoted! The sad part is that mental disease, stress, overwhelm, drain, loneliness etc seem to only worsen by the day. Yet, there seems to also be an absence in healers and medicine people and communities that only yesterday seemed to have been riding a comfortable wave of attention. So, where are they? Where is the movement?
For 12 yrs my sister and I have had a business called BOTANIKAL and for 9 of those years we had a brick and mortar. The shop put us right in the center of all things “New Age” “Spirituality” “Exploration” “Religion” “Spiritual Awakening” “Self Care” etc. and as you can imagine chock full of many lessons and insights!
We witnessed and supported many who were finally ready to come home to themselves…possibly even some of you reading this now :)
Yet we also saw lots of controversy around the validity of “love and light” or the overwhelming amount of information that many had to sort through or make sense of or “new age” offerings and schemes or the amount of people that suddenly wanted to become a healer…
As you can imagine, not everyone applauded or welcomed the “New Age Movement”. In fact to this day some feel that it created division amongst people, watered down ancient practices and medicines, led to lots of misinformation and narcissistic healers etc…
So mi gente, Is the “New Age” movement done? Was the “New Age Movement” positive or was it damaging?
Chime in family! What are your thoughts?
Warmly,
Hermanas Alex y RA Perez

It has been supplanted with a very commercial, toxic and virulent tendency created by the consumerism. I remember talking diverse topics whit people with out anyone springing out of the bush saying "I'm a Shaman" or a "medicine woman" just because they have traveled to South America and then put a McKiosk using and abusing of ancestral medicines. Sort a fake spirituality that hides very dangerous tendencies like sociopaths and narcissists disguised as Gurus, Shamans or Medicine women. Because of this some people has stepped out and choose to share the knowledge with selected people.
You know… now that it’s been mentioned, I have realized it too. I wonder why as well? Did the pandemic put a major pause or even a shift? Or was it something completely different and coincidental? This is very thought provoking.
