Opening up a shop brings many unexpected twists and turns and will keep you on your toes...lol!
My sister and I have received many "energetic smacks of reality" throughout the years.
I'd like to share one.
Prior to opening the shop, we had already been vending for a year or two and that had brought us to many diverse environments, communities and places.
We loved every bit of it.
Sometimes we vended at holistic bazaars, psychic fairs, street fairs or private events. As a result, we encountered folks from all walks of life, varying degrees of spirituality and self care.
However, when we opened Botanikal, we came face to face with people so afraid of what our shop was or represented… so much so that some could not even bring themselves to walk inside.
Pero, you guessed it!
Their fear, stigmas and biases were primarily based on cultural, religious, and/or society's negative depiction of Spiritual Wellness shops.
We realized a couple of important things:
One, we had to go back to simple. And two, we had to focus on education.
This transformational simplicity is embedded in the way we approach our business, our clients, and our community.
The "reality smack" was seeing that even in such "modern times", there was still much fear and disinformation.
On another note, this also presented us with the opportunity to teach new perspectives and empower folks with more information.
One of our strengths is supporting people new to self care and spirituality. It is a pleasure to witness people expand!
